Our picture-postcard property is one of the most photographed houses in the traditional ‘white village’ of Bédar in Almería. Built in 1930, and retaining many of its original features to this day, this is a relaxing, whimsically unique space, draped in exquisite bougainvillea. We’ve lovingly enhanced this house’s traditional elements, incorporating many locally-made pieces with a nod to Andalucía’s classical Moorish influences to complement our own eclectic style.
Our gorgeous boutique accommodation overlooks the village church, offering breath-taking vistas of the sun-drenched Sierra Cabrera mountain range beyond.
Bédar is a haven for walkers, cyclists, artists and chill-seekers alike, and we promise you clean mountain air, jaw-droppingly magnificent scenery, peace and tranquillity, and a taste of the traditional, enviably laid-back Spanish way of life.

A bit of back-story
We fell in love with this place before we’d even set foot in it…
A brief timeline:
· March 2015: we meet
· April 2016: get engaged in Thailand
· September 2017: we marry at La Capilla chapel, Mojácar
· September 2018: move to Spain – the Casa Caballito de Mar journey begins!
· April 2019: our doors open
These are some words from our wedding blessing that truly resonate for us:
“You will create your future together: your destiny will become a reality by opening your hearts and sharing your hopes and dreams.”
Come and see what a truly special place Casa Caballito de Mar is for yourself – we think there’s a good chance that you’ll fall in love with it too!
A get-away to Casa Caballito de Mar genuinely offers the best of all worlds. It’s in a stunning rural setting, yet is only a 20-minute drive from the vibrant resort and blue-flag beaches of Mojácar Playa. The wild, rugged and almost other-worldly landscape and beaches of Cabo de Gata, one of Spain’s most striking national parks, are a mere 35-minute drive away, and Europe’s only desert is on our doorstep too.
In the house itself, you may wish to socialise in the bar in the afternoon and evening. Alternatively, take your drinks to your private terrace, to the Bohemian Lounge (which has a cosy log fire and a TV with international channels), or to the ambient Fuente courtyard, our secret on-site oasis, where you can relax and cool down by sitting and dipping your feet in our Moroccan fountain.
The bar also features a Nespresso coffee machine, Google Mini and a Bose Bluetooth speaker and board games.
If we’re around to serve you, we will, with pleasure – alternatively, we operate an honesty bar.
We also offer snacks, light lunches, picnics and beach towels, and provide free Wi-Fi throughout the property.
Venturing out into Bédar, the village boasts a fully-equipped gymnasium and a seasonal outdoor pool. There are two traditional Spanish bars and a family-run Spanish restaurant with fabulous views of the surrounding mountains.
We’re in the heart of a village that holds many fiestas throughout the year, including the atmospheric ‘Fiesta de moros y cristianos’ (‘The Moors and Christians Festival’) in September. During this celebration, which takes place over two days, there’s a costumed re-enactment of an historic battle, set to the strains of the village band, and a competition on horseback – and in true local style, this is all accompanied by good food, wine and partying into the wee hours, of course.
